New Day – New Music

Rise and shine – it’s time to tune in to something new.

Whether you’re into mainstream artists or the more obscure – 2019 has been exploding with new music. It’s a blessing and a curse. I want to listen to them all, but I don’t have the time.

My Fav Albums of 2019

Wasteland, Baby – Hozier

I have been sitting at the edge of my seat for this album for years, and now that it’s here – I could not be happier. I truly believe that he produces music for the soul in the most poetic way. With that being said, this album is truly amazing. It’s my favorite release of the year so far.

It’s hard to pin which songs on the album I like best because there are absolutely none I dislike. “Would That I”, “Sunlight”, and “Sing” have been in constant rotation for me.

Pep Talks – Judah and the Lion

This highly anticipated album was officially dropped Friday, May 3rd. The band had been releasing singles off of the album since December 12th, 2018. These included “Quarter-Life Crisis”, “Over My Head”, and “pictures” which featured Kasey Musgraves.

I’m in love with “Quarter-Life Crisis”, “7000x”, and “Dancing with Ya”. Judah and the Lion have been one of my favorite bands since I saw them in concert. They said they put their heart and soul into the album – and it shows. It has also been said that the album was written with an emphasis to be performed live – and I am dying to see it.

Thank U, Next – Ariana Grande

Ariana is dominating music – and rightly so. 2019 is chalking up to be the year of transparency in music, and Ari is the epitome of candid. On top of releasing hit after chart-topping hit, Grande released Thank U, Next in February, just months after Sweetener. Ariana Grande has been breaking records nonstop.

Singles like “Thank U, Next” and “7 Rings” have become staples in radio rotations and personal playlists.

My absolute favorite song off of the album is “NASA” – I literally can’t shower without it.

Cuz I Love You – Lizzo

Lizzo has been shaken the music scene with her honesty, personality, and presence. With an ever growing following, she released her album Cuz I Love You, mid-April.

Everyone was waiting for this album, but I don’t think anyone was prepared for this album. I wasn’t prepared for such a work of art. Songs like “Juice” and “Cuz I Love You” have been hitting the air waves fresh off of the album.

While it’s hard to pick just one favorite off of this album, “Better in Color”, stands out to me. It’s upbeat, transparent, and screams confidence.

When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? – Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish has become a sensation overnight – even before the release of her debut album. (I tried to get tickets to see her and they sold out two hours into the presale. It was depressing, to say the least.) This album is dark and light, somber but sweet, heartfelt and edgy – and I adore it. It’s something new. Her voice is absolutely stunning. I love that her personality and creativity shine through every crack and crevice in this album.

“bad guy” is one of my favorites off of the album which is a bit stereotypical I know. I’ve liked “you should see me in a crown” since it was released last year, and the lesser known song I’m really vibing with is “listen before i go”.

On a High Note

All the bands that released albums this year are going on tour! I’m over the moon, but my bank account has hit a new low.
